Abstract

The concept of symbolism has been pivotal in shaping the artistic expressions of Urdu poetry. From the classical period to the modern era, Urdu poetry has witnessed a significant transformation, influenced by socio-political changes, cultural movements, and literary innovations. This article explores the evolution of symbolism in Urdu poetry, tracing its roots from the classical works of Mirza Ghalib and Allama Iqbal to the more contemporary figures like Faiz Ahmed Faiz and Ahmed Faraz. It examines how poets used symbols to express deeper meanings, often intertwining them with the socio-political realities of their times. The study aims to highlight the relevance and impact of symbolism in expressing complex emotional and intellectual themes across different periods.
