Abstract

Language is a central element in the construction and expression of cultural identity. It is not only a tool for communication but also a means of reflecting the values, beliefs, and historical narratives that define a particular culture. This article explores the role of language in shaping cultural identity, with a focus on the socio-cultural dynamics of Pakistan. The relationship between language, ethnicity, and identity is examined, emphasizing how language functions as a vehicle for both personal and collective self-definition. The study draws on various theories of language and identity, discussing how language influences perceptions of belonging, heritage, and community. Through an analysis of linguistic practices and policies in Pakistan, the paper highlights the complexities of language in the negotiation of identity in a multilingual society.
